A former high school basketball star gets a second shot at life when transformed into a teenager miraculously and offered the opportunity to reformulate his future. Back in 1989, Mike O'Donnell (Matthew Perry) had it all; not only was he the 17-year-old senior king of the basketball court, but he was also getting circled by collage scouts. But just as Mike's future began to glow brighter than ever, he sacrificed everything to stay by his pregnant girlfriend Scarlet (Leslie Mann) and marry her, and to be a good father to his kids Maggie 0'Donnell (Michelle Trachtenberg) and Alex O'Donnell (Sterling Knight). 20 years later, Mike has been passed over for a big promotion at work, his marriage is failing, his teenage kids cannot stand him and think he is a loser, his family is breaking apart, his dreams are long gone and he blames Scarlet for his failures. Out of nowhere Mike is transported into back into his teenage body and given the opportunity to fix his mistakes. When Mike realizes that by trying to recapture his most splendid years he could risk losing all the best things such as his kids.
17 again is PG-13 because of language, some sexual material and teen partying rated movie. It is a excellent movie to watch with the family, because it can relate to everyone. Mike's action caused a huge impact on his future, this teaches us that we must take time to make decisions and not rush it like most teenagers do. After Mike's big sacrifice, Mike and Scarlet had a lot of relationship problems, a huge impact on their relationship was how they became teenage parents. Teens can relate to this because after some of them become teenage parents it is very stressful causing issues. Other examples that can relate to teen issues are Maggie and Alex. Alex gets bullied from the basketball team for not being good at basketball, they do humiliating things to him like stick him to the toilet with tape. This is relates to almost every teenager because almost all of them get bullied during their teenage life. And Maggie has relationship problems with her boyfriend because, she is not ready for sex and her boyfriend Stan (Hunter Parrish) is pushing her into doing it, causing their breakup.
I liked this movie very much because of how entertaining it is, and because of how humorous some of the scenes are. What I didn't like was how Mike transformed into his teenage self. I thought there was going to be a more creative way of how it happened, instead of him just falling into a watery vortex. Overall I recommend this for all teenagers because it teaches us that we always take things for granted and that we aren't always sure of what we really want.
